Racialized newcomer youth in Canada face unique challenges, such as adapting to a new school system, adjusting to Canadian culture, and dealing with social isolation due to language barriers and peer pressure. Many of these students also face issues stemming from prolonged family separation. Parents who immigrated to Canada left family members behind, and upon reuniting after years of separation, face complex issues like family conflicts, strained relationships, adjustment problems, youth depression, loss of life goals, and dropping out of school.
At KMC, our youth services are designed to address these needs and fully support newcomer and racialized youth.
Through one-on-one counseling and group activities, we encourage youth to pursue post-secondary education while providing a safe space to promote their physical and mental well-being. Our programs equip youth with essential skills and resources for academic success and assist them in navigating their paths after high school, ensuring they reach their full potential and connect meaningfully with their community.

"Kababayan Youth counselor helped me register for colleges, apply for scholarships like OSAP, and evaluate my foreign education. As a newcomer, I didn't know how to start the registration process or what documents I needed for school. I was really confused. However, the Kababayan Youth counselor assisted me with registration, how to pass examinations, and what documents I needed. I am now studying accounting in college and the educational service in youth program helped me a lot in this. "

"For the last two years, I've partnered with Kababayan Youth who conduct interactive workshops at our school on stress, mental health, and career pathways for senior-level classes. These activities get the students out of their chairs, cooperating, and laughing together—a rare sight in classrooms dominated by technology today. These sessions also provide students with tools essential for both school and life beyond... I highly recommend Kababayan’s partnership with any school that has students new to the country or those facing difficulties adjusting. The laughter and joy that fill the classroom during these sessions are truly priceless."
