To be Old and an Immigrant in Canada

Aguido dela Cruz had emigrated to Canada from the Philippines

The elderly in Canada, including immigrants, experience loneliness and isolation, perhaps more than other segments of the population. The Covid pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns and mobility restrictions have only exacerbated this. Various community organizations, including the Kababayan Multicultural Centre, help enhance the overall wellbeing of members of the Seniors community through meaningful engagement, with funding support from the Employment and Social Development Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program which aims for, among others, the engagement of seniors in the community, social participation and inclusion of seniors, and expansion of awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse.
