Furniture Bank

We understand the importance of making your homes feel warm and welcoming, even more when everything is new in your environment. That is why we have partnered with Furniture Bank to provide valuable support to newcomers and refugees in Ontario, Canada, who need an extra hand as they settle into their new lives. Furniture Bank is a registered charity and has been serving the Greater Toronto Area since 1998. They have given out FREE gently-used, good-quality furniture and housewares from generous donors to different families and individuals.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • New to Canada / New Occupant within 12 months of arrival date

  • Recently transitioned from homelessness within the last 12 months

  • Experienced loss of furniture in the last 12 months due to fire, flood, pest infestation, or another exceptional circumstance

  • Be affiliated with a program at Kababayan Multicultural Centre

How Furniture Bank Works:

  1. Get a referral from us to Furniture Bank.
    You won't be able to apply directly to Furniture Bank for their services so make sure to register with us or get in touch with your KMC counsellor.
     

  2. Review process by Furniture Bank.
    This is a subsidized, but not free service. The furnishings you receive are no cost, but you must pre-pay for delivery to secure your appointment.
     

  3. Complete the Referral Payment Form.
    You can get a copy of this from your KMC counsellor.
     

  4. Prepare for furniture selection.
    List down what furniture you need and accurately measure your space to ensure your chosen furniture fits what you need. You won't be able to return or exchange furnitures once delivered.
     

  5. Visit Furniture Bank for furniture selection.
    You will visit Furniture Bank in Etobicoke to select your furniture and home goods.
     

  6. Delivery of your furniture.
    Furniture Bank will schedule a delivery of your chosen furniture to your home when you visit that day.

  • Yes, there’s a $300 flat fee for furniture delivery paid to Furniture Bank. This covers transportation, insurance, and the moving team.

  • You can pay via credit card or debit card.

  • Someone should be able to receive the delivery on the delivery date. You'll receive a call from the delivery service a day before the appointed delivery date for confirmation. For rescheduling, contact your KMC counsellor.​​

  • Deliveries are scheduled Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, unless prearranged with Furniture Bank. You’ll receive a call 30 minutes before the delivery team arrives. 

  • No, all furniture is delivered by the Furniture Bank team. They don’t offer a client pick-up option.

  • It’s important to accurately measure your space before visiting Furniture Bank for furniture selection. They won't process returns or exchanges on delivery day due to size issues. 

  • Furniture Bank won't process returns or exchanges based on personal preference.
